Established in 1983, the Baldwin City Recreation Commission is a Joint Recreation Commission under the statues of the State of Kansas. While Commissioners are appointed from both the City of Baldwin City and USD #348, the Recreation Commission is autonomous in its operations and services offered.
Currently, the Commission offers the following programs (with new ones being added annually):
- Youth Sports, including basketball, flag football, fall soccer, baseball
and softball for children ages 3-6th grade.
- (some sports have programs for those older than 6th grade)
- Summer day camp
- After School power hour - grades K-6th
- Before School Care
- Kid's Day Out - grades k-6th on days when school is scheduled out
during the school year
- 55+ Crowd - a large variety of activities for those over 55
- Special Events - one day events for the community at large based on
seasonal themes, including July 4 Celebration, Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, Thanksgiving Turkey shoot, Breakfast with Santa and Memorial Day and Labor Day emphasis at the Municipal Pool
- Swim Lessons
- Various arts and crafts classes, as well as classes of interest to
special groups of patrons.
- Day trips and outings
